Hawley Calls for McConnell to Step Down as Leader

The story says this:

“Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., called this week for his conference’s floor leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, to step down from his top post amid health concerns.

He joins a growing number of Republicans, including the conservative magazine National Review, that have called for the 81-year-old GOP leader since 2007 to step aside.

‘If you’re concerned about the president’s ability to do his job — and I am, and a lot of Republicans say they are — you have to be concerned when it’s someone from your own party,’ Hawley told reporters.”

Here’s something to watch as this McConnell drama unfolds. One of the unofficial but deeply central tasks of a Senate Minority – or Majority – Leader is to raise bucks for the Leader’s same-party colleagues. The word on Capitol Hill is that keeping his members flush with donor cash has been a McConnell strength. Correspondingly, this is said to have influenced GOP members and their reluctance to call for McConnell to step down.

Will Senator Hawley be joined by other GOP Senators? And are Hawley’s own campaign contributions in any trouble?

Stay tuned.
