Talk about chickens coming home to roost.

Here’s the headline from Fox News: https://www.foxnews.com/us/texas-congressman-henry-cuellar-carjacked-washington-dc

Texas congressman Henry Cuellar carjacked at gunpoint in Washington, DC

Three men carjacked the congressman at gunpoint while he was parking his car in the district’s Navy Yard neighborhood, Cuellar’s chief of staff said

The story starts with a statement from the DC police:

“The Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an armed carjacking Monday evening at approximately 9:32 p.m. at the intersection of New Jersey and K Street, Southeast. The victim was identified as a member of Congress and the United States Capitol Police took over the investigation. MPD is assisting Capitol Police’s Criminal Investigative Division,” the statement read.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., was spotted at the location of the crime with Cuellar as Capitol police were processing the scene and taking a statement from Cuellar.

‘DC’s Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking that happened around 9:30 p.m. in DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood,’ Capitol police said in a statement late Monday night. ‘The victim has been identified as a Member of Congress, so the USCP has investigators working with MPD on this case. Injuries were not reported. Detectives are working to track down the suspect.’”

As it happens, this location is a handful of blocks from my old apartment on Capitol Hill. As its name indicates, the Navy Yard was once exactly that. As per its self description today, it was opened in 1799 as a Navy shipyard and ordnance plant. Today it is a ceremonial and administrative center for the Navy, and as indicated nearby are apartments. Apparently that is where Congressman Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, lives when in Washington.

The fact that something like this could occur within a mile of the U.S. Capitol itself, not to mention in the neighborhood of a U.S. military installation, speaks volumes about the rise of crime in the District. The District notoriously a progressive enclave.

The fact that the target here happens to have been a congressman is the only reason the story has made news. The real news is how much crime is being perpetrated against unknown private citizens all across the District.

And the answer is: a lot.

Safe to say, the progressive chickens that are DC prosecution of criminals have come home to roost.
